DREAM – 7 TIPS TO HELP YOU OWN IT
Dream brings the sense of life and everyone has a dream. Some people dream of wealth and luxury while others dream of romance. Some dream of political power and yet others dream of traveling to exotic places and enjoying new experiences. Dreams tend to differ from person to person but the one thing we all have in common is that we tend to settle for average when we fail to achieve our dreams.
Life always seems to get in the way and before we realize it our dreams are pushed to the back of our minds, abandoned and forgotten. But what if I told you that you can own your dream life by you following few simple principles? I know it sounds incredible. How can a few simple rules be a formula for success? But believe it or not, these practical and effective principles have always held true for anyone who dreams of success.
Here are 7 things that you need to know and apply them in your life if you want to Own Your Dream life.
Be clear about what you want. A vision gives you a sense of purpose and tells you where you want to go. Without a vision, you will never know what you really want or what you’re trying to achieve and you will be like a vehicle without a navigator, going everywhere and nowhere. What is your talent? What are you passionate about? What fulfills you and makes you happy? Find out what your passion is, make it your vision and focus on that.
Once you have a vision, you need to be more specific about what you aim to achieve and setting goals is one of the best ways to this. Your goals must be guided by your vision and they must all be geared towards the achievement of the vision. I have dreamed of being a public speaker and I set my goals accordingly so that everything I did, contributed to that vision. When I was in college, I worked as a radio presenter and later I started working as an emcee, sharpening my skills gradually until I became one of the best speakers in the game. My goals helped me focus on my vision and enabled me to achieve it step-by-step. You also can own your dream life by creating a habit of setting goals.
It’s important to be optimistic and to have positive expectations when you chase your dreams. Having a positive attitude keeps you grounded and focused and it helps you cope in the event of failure. We are living in world whereby we are told more of limitations rather than our potentials. Newspapers, TVs, are full of doom and gloom and we may be discouraged by friends and family members who don’t believe in you that we can actually own your dream life. You must never allow these things to get you down. Believe in yourself and make sure you always feed your mind with positive things that boost your optimism. Be very careful about the things you watch and listen to because they can have a positive or negative influence on your attitude.
4. Dream Board.
The law of attraction shows you how you can attract your dream life like a powerful magnet through simple and effective visualization techniques. One of the best techniques is the Vision Board or Dream Board which is literally a space where you put things that help you visualize your dreams and it must be displayed in an obvious place where you can easily see it. These things could be pictures, objects, articles or even poems. I have always dreamed of visiting Europe and I put a photograph of the Eiffel Tower on my Dream Board. I recently achieved that dream and visited several European cities including, Rome, Paris, Barcelona and Istambul. When you wake up every day, your Dream Board will be the first thing you see and each time you look at it and see all your dreams you will never forget them in a hurry and your focus will be razor-sharp.

Once you have visualized your dreams the next step is to take action. Faith without action is Dead. Taking action simply means making a start or taking small measures to make your dreams a reality, and all you have to do is start with what you have. As Les Brown puts it “You do not have to be great to start but you have to start so that you can be great” Most people think they need millions of shillings (thousands of dollars) to start a business while in reality all they really need to do is simply start somewhere. A person who aims to have his own boutique one day should at least start selling clothes even if he doesn’t have an actual shop. You will never own your dream if you don’t use what you already have to make any efforts. So don’t wait for a miracle. Do something today. Whatever your dream is, start taking action. As the Chinese saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
If you are serious about your dreams then you must be committed. Stay on course. Most people do things after being motivated by something, whether it’s anger, passion or love. A person, who is committed, continues to do something long after the motivation to do it has disappeared. One of the best definitions of the word Commitment I ever heard says ” Commitment is to do the things that you said will do even after the feelings which made you to say has left you”. That is what it means to be committed. It means pushing on against all odds even when you have an excuse to give up. Without commitment, you will never be able to own your dream life.
7. Strategic Relationships.
The relationships you form with people must not be haphazard or meaningless. You must try to form as many strategic relationships as possible because it is only through such relationships that you can get the help you need to achieve your dreams. Many of the sponsorship I got for my projects were a result of my strategic relationships with certain key people. Always form relationships with a strategy in mind and make sure the people you form relationships with can help you achieve your dreams. Surround yourself with people who can inspire you and not people who discourage you.
So there you have it. If you follow these simple, powerful 7 things, believe it or not, you can actually own your dream life. Now get up. It’s time to begin your journey of true success.
