STEVE JOBS TOP 10 RULES FOR SUCCESS
Steve Jobs, the late CEO of Apple, is recognized all over the world as the Father of the Digital Revolution. In 2015, his net worth was over 19 billion dollars and as one of the world’s leading innovators, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest entrepreneurs of all time.
The following are Steve Jobs top 10 rules for success.
1. Don’t live a Limited Life.
The conventional wisdom is that you should only live your life within the world’s confines because the world is just the way it is. But that kind of life is very limited. Once you realize that instead of just living life, you can actually change it and even improve it, you will naturally want to make your mark upon it. Once you learn that you will never be the same again.
2. Have Passion.
You must have a lot of passion for what you are doing because the harder it gets, the easier it is to accept defeat. Since what you are doing is very difficult, you cannot sustain the effort if you don’t love it or have any passion for it. Successful people love what they do and that is why they persevere when it the going gets tough.
3. Design for Yourself.
Steve Jobs revolutionized the personal computer market by designing and manufacturing his own computers with his friends and his first products were so popular that his company, Apple Computers, became one of the leading computer manufacturers in the United States. His success was a result of his hard work and painstaking attention to detail in the design of his practical user-friendly products.
4. Don’t try to Sell Crap.
Mark Parker, the President and CEO of Nike once asked Steve Jobs for advice. Steve Jobs said, “Nike makes some of the best products in the world but they also make a lot of crap. Just get rid of the crap and focus on the good stuff.” Always focus on quality in your endeavors.
5. Build a Great Team.
The greatest people don’t need to be managed because once they know what to do, they will figure out how to do it. The only thing such people need is a common vision and providing that vision is what leadership is all about. This is why it is so important to recruit the right people. Steve Jobs knew this and he always took recruitment very seriously.
6. Don’t do it for the Money.
Even though Steve Jobs was worth over 100 million dollars when he was only 25, he was not really in it for the money. The most important thing to him was his company and the products they were making and what those products would enable people to do. He was driven not by greed but by his ambition to change the world.
7. Be Proud of Your Products.
Steve Jobs always wanted to manufacture products he could be proud of and actually recommend to his friends and family. He never made stripped down lousy products like his competitors because that was a line he would never cross. Always make sure that the products you make are products you can be proud of.
8. Build Around Customers.
You need to figure out what your customers want first and then work out how to meet their needs. Steve Jobs always focused on the customer experience and he used it to gauge the viability of his products. He succeeded because he learned from his mistakes and did his best to satisfy his customers.
9. Marketing is About Values.
When you market your products, you need to focus on your core values. Your products need to represent those values. When Steve Jobs was working on one of Apple’s new advertisements, he asked himself, “What is Apple and what does it stand for?” The theme of the advertisement was eventually shaped by the core values of Apple, creativity and innovation.
10. Make the Most of Your Time.
Your time is limited so don’t waste it trying to live someone else life. Don’t let the noise of the opinions of others drown out your inner voice. Have the courage to always follow your heart and intuition because they somehow already know what you truly want to become.
